The Stanwood-Camano School Board honored the district’s two Employees of the Year during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
Every academic school year, the district selects one classified staff member and one certificated teacher who has shown themselves to be exceptional in serving our students. The honorees are chosen from the many, many deserving staff members who were nominated throughout the year by students, staff, and community members using our online form for our Employees of the Month recognition.
We are thrilled to announce our Classified Staff Member of the Year goes to Rachel Soriano Sanchez and our Teacher of the Year goes to Estevan Vivanco Meza!
As the Twin City Elementary office manager, Mrs. Soriano Sanchez displays compassion for each student that walks through those doors. Rachel treats each family with respect and kindness. She goes above and beyond the description of what her job requires. She is a role model when it comes to how staff should step up and help families in our district. She is one of our about 450 classified staff members — all of whom are critical to the success of our district. Without their efforts, we would not be able to accomplish all that we want to.
Mr. Vivanco Meza is an English Learner Teacher at Twin City Elementary, Cedarhome Elementary, and Saratoga School. He fully immerses himself in the classroom to become an active student participant and a teacher all at the same time. He asks meaningful questions and encourages meaning making for the students around him. He is one of our about 250 teachers — all of whom are committed educators, strive to serve our students, and ensure our district Promise is lived out in the classroom.
The Board also heard a report on the district’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) program, which is also highlighted in a new video featuring current and former students.
