President Miranda Evans called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.

President Evans announced two opportunities within the agenda for public comment.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Director Murry moved to approve the agenda for the October 3, 2023 Regular Board Meeting; seconded by Director Schreiber.

Donations
Student Advisor, Grace Pacheo, presented the donations.

Food Services Update: Don Vennetti
Don Vennetti, Director of Food Services, presented a Food Services update which included sharing the legislative impacts of House Bill 1238 (providing free school meals) and how it impacts students in the Stanwood-Camano School District. Director Vennetti also highlighted the number of meals served during the Summer Food Service Program as well as an observation of how the boundary adjustments for elementary schools have impacted daily meal participation. Discussion followed.

Summer School Report: Ben Guayan and Kelly Parsons
Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Ben Gauyan, presented an update on the Catch the Wave - Summer School Program, which included partnerships with the Stanwood-Camano Arts Advocacy Commission and the YMCA. Dr. Gauyan shared some of the highlights from the summer school program including an increased attendance rate from the previous year as well as positive feedback from students and teachers. Discussion followed.
CONSENT AGENDA
President Evans offered anyone in attendance the opportunity to speak to items on the Consent Agenda; she offered board members the opportunity to pull any items for discussion. There being none, Director Schreiber moved to approve Consent Agenda items 1 through 5; seconded by Director Murry.

Approve the Letter of Agreement with the Public School Employees of Stanwood-Camano outlining the process of covering additional secretary hours in the Transportation department

PUBLIC COMMENT
Citizens wishing to address the Board are asked to submit online requests using the PUBLIC COMMENT link or email [email protected] two hours prior to the board meeting start time. For those attending the meeting in person, request forms are available in the boardroom for submission prior to meeting start time. Citizens who wish to provide documents to board members will hand them to the Recording Secretary for distribution after the meeting. The Board President will call upon individuals who have requested to speak during the Public Comment section of the agenda. Individuals will state their name for the record and will be allowed three minutes to speak.
Two citizens submitted online requests to address the Board, however, neither citizen was present online or via Zoom. President Evans offered the option for these citizens to either sign up to speak at another meeting or reach out to the board through email.
SCHOOL BOARD DISCUSSION
1. First Reading of Revised Board Policy 6530, Insurance
There were no questions. Revised Policy 6530 moved forward for a second reading.
STUDENT ADVISOR REPORT
President Evans announced that the Student Advisors will attend all school board meetings for the 2023-24 school year as opposed to only evening meetings.
Grace Pacheco, Stanwood High School, reported the upcoming Homecoming events which will include a Spirit Week, assembly, parade, and a football game. Homecoming tickets are on sale. ASB and leadership will attend a leadership conference on November 4. Grace shared that overall school spirit seems to be higher this school year. She also shared a Spartan Sports update.
Bee Hartell, Lincoln Hill High School, reported that clubs are starting this week which includes Equity Club and Gamers Guild. Upcoming events include credit retrieval, the last day of the session is October 4, Spirit Week, pancake breakfast on Friday, picture retakes are October 24, and a Fall Social.
ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Director Hagglund shared that she recently attended the Mariners game in support of the high school Jazz choir who performed at the game. Director Hagglund shared that she is conducting a review of the school board policies that have not been reviewed in the last three years. She will report her findings to the Board President and Superintendent. She also noted that spelling corrections to policies do not require board approval.
President Evans expressed her appreciation of Director Hagglund's efforts to review the board policies.
Director Bayes' comments included her appreciation of the Summer School and Food Services reports.
Director Schreiber expressed his gratitude for the donations in support of kids, as well as his appreciation for the reports given at the meeting. He shared that he is grateful for the wonderful staff and for having the Student Advisors attend the daytime board meetings.
Director Murry provided details regarding her attendance at the Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA) General Assembly, which she attended online to reduce costs. She commented that she looks forward to seeing what the overall legislative priorities are for WSSDA going into the next legislative session.
Director Evans shared that she is looking forward to hearing a recap on the legislative priorities and thanked Director Murry for her work to prepare for the General Assembly.

There being no further business, President Evans adjourned the meeting at 1:38 p.m.
