The Stanwood-Camano School District is proud to announce that Elizabeth Sanchez will become the next principal of Elger Bay Elementary School, effective July 1.
Sanchez has worked in education since 2007, including as bilingual teacher and 10 years as an assistant principal. She currently is the assistant principal and athletic director at Gateway Middle School in Everett — a high-performing school home to 1,000 students.
She brings a strong academic background in creating opportunities for meaningful learning experiences, fostering growth among students and staff, and advocating for equity with community input. “These efforts are all geared toward a common goal: Student achievement,” she said.
Sanchez, a Camano Island resident who is currently pursuing a doctorate degree, holds Master’s degrees in Educational Leadership from Bank Street College and in Urban Education from Mercy College. She also has Bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice Administration and Spanish from San Diego State University.
The search began in early May after it was announced that Elger Bay principal Tim Dickinson will transition to the role of Stanwood Middle School principal on July 1. Dickinson replaces Tod Klundt, who is transitioning to the role of Church Creek Campus principal on July 1. Klundt replaces Ryan Pike, who accepted a job outside the Stanwood-Camano School District after three years leading Lincoln Hill High, Lincoln Academy, and Saratoga School. Dickinson has been the principal at Elger Bay for the past two school years.
During the hiring process, staff and members of the public provided input and feedback via surveys and community meetings that helped guide the search.
A diverse team of individuals from the community and staff were involved in candidate interviews. A community candidate forum was held on May 23 to meet the finalists in-person.
In the 2023-24 school year, Elger Bay Elementary School will be home to more than 385 students and about 56 staff members.
