Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Since the meals are free, do I still need to fill out an application?

Yes, we ask that you fill out a Free and Reduced Meal Application for the 2020-2021 School Year for two reasons:  One, the current USDA waiver extension allows free meals through December 31st or when funding runs out.  In the event the USDA waiver is not extended again, we will be required to transition back to charging families according to eligibility status.  Free and Reduced meal applications offer families that qualify either a reduction in the cost of meals or meals are provided at no charge. Secondly, some of the funding for our district is dependent upon free and reduced percentages.  Free & Reduced percentages are based on application outcomes and therefore filling out an application benefits the school district. Please follow this link for more information:  Free and Reduced Meal Applications

2.
Is the pre-order form the same as the Free and Reduced Meal Application?

No. The pre-order form is to order Grab and Go meals for your child(ren) for the following week.

If you believe that your household is eligible for Free or Reduced price meals, please first check SKYWARD Family Access to see if you have already been approved.  In addition, if you have been approved you should have received an email from the Food Service Department.  Unfortunately, the letters sometimes go to the SPAM folder, so we suggest you also check there.   If you would like to apply for free and reduced meals, please follow this link for more information:  Free and Reduced Meal Applications

3.  Do I need to qualify for Free or Reduced price meals to be able to pre-order Grab and Go meals?

No.  You may submit a pre-order regardless of your child(ren)’s meal eligibility.  All meals are free at this time for children ages 1 to 18.

4.  Are meals available to any child 1 to 18 years of age as was allowed during the Spring and Summer meal service?

YES, meals will be provided to all children ages 1 to 18, until notified otherwise.

5.  Do I have to pick up meals from my student’s home school?

Meal pick up does not have to be at the school your child is registered at.  You may order your meals for pickup at any of the Elementary School pick-up locations in our district.

6.  What is included in the meals?

Each breakfast meal includes a grain, fruit or fruit juice, and milk.  Each lunch meal included a meat/meat alternate, grain, fruit, vegetable, and milk. Here is a link to a breakdown of meal components:  What's in a Grab & Go Meal?   Interested in Nutrition Information please follow the following linkNutritional Information

7.  How will meals be packaged?

Meals will be packaged in a larger paper bag including both breakfast and lunch items for seven days.   Information regarding storage and heating will be included in the bag.  We are not currently providing meals in boxes.

8.  What if my student has a food allergy or medical condition and requires a diet modification?

If your student has a food allergy or medical condition that requires a diet modification, parents
must complete the Special Dietary Accommodations Request Form with a Doctor's signature.  Once complete please submit the form to the Food Service Department at the District Office.  We can not provide dietary accommodations unless we have a complete form filled out and signed by your child's doctor. Please click on one of the following links for more information:

Parent Information regarding Special Dietary Accommodations

pecial Dietary Accommodations Request Form

9.  Can I pick up a 7-day meal bag or a 5-day meal bag if I didn't pre-order?
