Jean Shumate, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Stanwood-Camano School District No. 401

 

The Superintendent of the District is the chief executive, is appointed by the Board of Directors, and serves at the discretion of the Board.  Dr. Jean Shumate has been the Superintendent of the Stanwood-Camano School District since 2001. 

 

Before coming to Stanwood-Camano, Dr. Shumate served as an Area Administrator and Principal in the Highline School District, for a total of eight years. Her experiences included providing service and support for all K-12 schools, providing educational leadership in all aspects of the operation of the schools, and supervising and evaluating K-12 principals.  Prior to serving the Highline School District, Dr. Shumate served in the Northshore School District for nine years as a high school Assistant Principal at Woodinville High School and Bothell High School, respectively. Dr. Shumate also has extensive teaching experience in grades 7 through 12, as well as university level courses in the area of mathematics.

 

Dr. Shumate received her B.A. and M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Washington. Her 

post-graduate work was at Seattle Pacific University where she earned her administrative credentials and she earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Seattle Pacific University.

 

Jean and her husband, Greg, have been married for 43 years. The Shumate’s enjoy golfing, biking and taking walks with their dogs, Maggie and Lucy.
