The Stanwood Middle School (SMS) Science Team placed 2nd in the Northwest Science Olympiad Regional at Everett Community College on Saturday, March 7. Fourteen middle school teams competed for the opportunity to move on to the Washington State Science Olympiad to be held at Clark College in Vancouver April 18th.  The SMS science team is one of 6 middle school teams moving onto the state completion from the northwest region. This marks the 19th consecutive year a team from Stanwood Middle School will compete at the state science Olympiad. 


The SMS Science Olympiad Regional top performers are: Tylynn Arnett, 1st place in Physical Science Lab, 2nd in Amphibians and Reptiles, 3rd in Disease Detective, and 4th in Ecology; Cameron Waters, 1st place in Write it/Do it, 2nd in Experimental Design, and 4th in Meteorology; Brandon Reynolds, 1st place in Physical Science Lab, 2nd in Amphibians and Reptiles, and 4th in Ecology; Jared Holmgren, 1st place in Trajectory, 2nd in Experimental Design, and 4th in Meteorology; Dylan Thrush, 2nd place in Experimental Design and 3rd in Robo-Cross; Savannah Phillips, 1st place in Write it/Do it and 4th in Road Scholars; Harley Weaver and Caryn Nash, 1st place in Fossils and 2nd in Science Crime Busters; Nathan Thompson, 1st place in Scrambler; Samantha Helmick-Schwarzmiller, 3rd place in Disease Detective; Brandon Smith and Travis Whittaker, 3rd place in Amphibians and Reptiles; and Tyson Shoemaker, 4th place in Road Scholars.
