Susan Fortner, Port Susan Middle School Para Educator, received the first Classified Employee of the Month award. The superintendent, award sponsor, the principal, and two teachers made a surprise announcement during a brief intermission of her assignment. The Board of Directors will recognize Mrs. Fortner at the regular board meeting October 20, 2009, at 7:00 PM at the Administration and Resource Center. The public is invited to the meeting to help celebrate this recognition.
Mrs. Fortner has been a para educator in the Stanwood-Camano School District for 12 years. She was nominated by three teachers, Sheri Schroeder, Jana Swenson, and Mark Carlson and was then selected, by committee, to receive the award. Mrs. Fortner heard the words that were written about her from the teachers and Mr. Olson, principal, who filled in for Mrs. Schroeder, who was unable to attend the event. Mrs. Schroeder listed characteristics of consistency, caring, professionalism and dedication, “always willing to go the extra mile to support student learning.”
Mrs. Swensen said that Susan knows what the students need without
being prompted and is always happy and willing to do what is best for
students. Mr. Carlson added that Mrs. Fortner has a tremendous
influence on the lives of many students at Port Susan Middle School,
and that she is very conscientious about students’ feelings, their
needs, and is very sensitive to helping them feel comfortable. Mr.
Carlson said, “Her knowledge and wisdom about helping kids achieve is a
tremendous asset to my classroom.”
Congratulations Mrs. Fortner!
The Classified Employee of the Month recognition award is given monthly
throughout the school year, thanks to a partnership between the
Stanwood-Camano School District and Sterling Savings Bank. The
Classified Employee of the Month award recipient is selected from
nominations that are reviewed by a committee of community members and
one school district employee. If you wish to nominate a classified
employee or a teacher, go to the district website
www.stanwood.wednet.edu. Under the main menu choose Families and
Students, then choose the nomination for Teacher of the Month or
Classified Employee of the Month.
