Next year’s entering 9th graders, graduating Class of 2021, will have new graduation requirements

 

In 2014 the Washington State Board of Education updated the graduation requirements as per Senate Bill 6552. One of the requirements was that students graduating from Washington State high schools must graduate with 24 credits. The Stanwood-Camano School District applied for a two-year waiver for these graduation requirements in order to study best possible ways to implement the 24 credit requirement.

 

Next year’s entering freshmen students, the graduating Class of 2021, will be required to have 24 credits in order to graduate. They are also required to create a High School and beyond plan that includes Personalized Pathways. These are related courses that lead to a specific post high school career or educational outcomes chosen by students based on interests. Personalized Pathways may include Career and Technical Education, World Languages or the Arts.
